JumpStart Africa: Unlocking Women’s Potential Through Financial Inclusion in Africa

That’s why JumpStart Africa provides them with holistic support to start and grow their businesses offering micro-loans, financial literacy training, mentorship, business development support, networking opportunities, and market linkages to women entrepreneurs in underserved communities. JumpStart Africa also empowers women and vulnerable populations addressing gender inequality and promoting inclusivity because the organisation believes that financial inclusion for women is key to unlocking their potential and creating sustainable economic development and social impact in Kampala and beyond.

Financial inclusion is the ability to access and use a range of affordable, quality, and relevant financial services that meet the needs of individuals and businesses. Financial inclusion can empower women enhancing their economic opportunities, increasing their income and savings, improving their livelihoods and well-being, and promoting gender equality.

However, despite the importance of financial inclusion in women’s economic empowerment, women in Africa are disproportionately excluded from formal financial services. Complex cultural, economic, social, and legal barriers continue to retard growth in financial inclusion for women in African countries

According to the IMF, women entrepreneurs in Africa are more likely to self-select out of the credit market because of low perceived creditworthiness, low financial literacy, risk aversion, and fear of failure2. These factors are influenced gender stereotypes, social norms, and discrimination that undermine women’s confidence and agency. As a result, women entrepreneurs face challenges in accessing finance, markets, networks, skills, and mentorship that are essential for their business success.

That’s why JumpStart Africa is on a mission to provide holistic support to women entrepreneurs and underserved communities in Africa. JumpStart Africa offers a range of support services, including:
